Athletics at Brandon Hall
Involving Students in Meaningful Athletic Activities |
| In keeping with the mission and objectives of the school, the athletic program seeks to involve students in meaningful athletic activities that teach individual and team self-discipline, responsibility, and accountability. All students may try out and participate in a sports activity, provided they are in good health, will make a commitment to uphold the sportsmanship standards and policies, and will be in consistent attendance at practices and games. All boarders are required to participate on an athletic team or in drama or another proved activity each season unless otherwise approved by the administration. The school recognizes the variety of athletic skills and experience in its students; therefore, the emphasis is on a student’s participating and learning as well as doing his/her best as individuals and team members. Emphasized are physical fitness, individual and group effort, positive attitudes, self-discipline, good sportsmanship, the art of winning and losing graciously, and the respect for individual differences, talents, and skill levels. Brandon Hall participates in the Atlanta Athletic Conference (AAC) and the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) athletic programs.
Varsity Level: At the varsity level, the goal is to field a competitive team. The coach should attempt to have all team members participate in each game; however, it is understood that certain goals and objectives in terms of playoffs and conference games may preclude everyone from playing. At the varsity level, the school maintains a no-cut policy and welcomes all student athletes who exhibit character, sportsmanship, individual skills, and commitment. Students who do participate must also maintain average or above grades. Each varsity sport has a specific age criteria and will only be altered after a meeting with the coach and athletic director if the situation is deemed appropriate. Junior Varsity and Middle School: The middle school program focuses on growing individual skills and teaching students to work as a member of a team. At the middle school level, all athletes who maintain their academic standing and who adhere to the department’s standards of expectation receive playing time. The amount of playing time is at the discretion of each coach.
