Communication: Grades/Progress to Parents

In keeping with the school’s philosophy that effective communication between the school and the parent is important to a student’s success, Brandon Hall has teamed up with Go Home at Five, LLC. Their software, Best Notes, provides a constant and dynamic view of your child's assignments and progress. The new Brandon Hall Parent Portal is a comprehesive gateway to your son, daughter, or wards daily interactions and responsibilities. The school has two formal parent/teacher conferences. One is usually held at the end of the first nine-week period, and the other conference is held during second semester before re-enrollment contracts are issued. The school, however, welcomes calls and conferences with parents and students throughout the year.

Interim Reports
Interim Reports are calculated at the completion of the four-week period so that parents and students have a clear understanding of the grades to date. If a student has less than a “C” in a course, the parent should contact the academic office for a phone or personal conference.

Mid-Semester Reports
Mid-Semester Reports are calculated at the completion of the nine-week grading period.  The Mid-Semester Report counts approximately 1/3 of the semester grade.  A second nine-week grade and the semester examination count approximately 1/3 each of the semester grade.  Since grades are not “averaged,” a student who fails the examination or who does not continue to improve may find that each section has not counted exactly 1/3 of the final grade.

Semester Reports
Semester Reports include the semester examination grade and the semester grade along with attendance, conduct, and boarding reports.  Semester grades are the only grades that appear on a student’s official transcript.

Other reports
In keeping with public school requirements in the state of Georgia and with its own standard of conduct expectations, the school documents attendance and conduct and mails them with report cards and to other schools when a student is transferring.  The resident life department also sends written reports regarding a student’s progress and general life in the dormitory.

Assignment Notebooks: Grades Recorded
Students are asked to record their grades they receive on a daily or weekly basis in their assignment notebooks.
