Fundamentals of Drama
“Fundamentals of Drama” is a one-semester, performance-based course open to students interested in theatre background and performance skills. Activities include movement, improvisation, and scene work from known plays. Students will learn some stagecraft techniques such as designing and creating masks, props, costumes, and sets.
Theatre Appreciation
Theatre Appreciation is a one-semester course that examines theatre history, the role of the actor and director, and plays from the ancient Greek through the 21st century. Students may be required to attend school, community, and/or professional theatre performances, and to evaluate and critique productions.
Acting
Acting is a one-semester, performance-based course designed to develop the skills of acting for the theatre. Students will learn healthy vocal production; improvisation, motivation, and exploration to establish character; to evaluate self, each other, and outside mediums; the history and current trends in acting; and audition techniques.
Technical Theatre
In this hands-on course, students will explore all areas of technical theatre: set design and construction; costume design and construction; make-up; lighting; sound; publicity; and house management. Students will design, build, and tech all Panther Players productions.
Public Speaking
Public Speaking is a one semester course that provides the student with a variety of public speaking experiences with stress given to preparation, organization, composition and delivery of the extemporaneous speech. Students study modern communication theory, classical rhetoric and traditional logic. Students are also introduced to library research skills including note taking, works cited page, and the use of a variety of research tools. Students present speeches including the speech to inform, the demonstration speech, the speech to persuade, the debate speech, and the oral interpretation.

Drama I
Theatre I is a 9-week course for students in grades 4-6. This introductory course encompasses a wide variety of theatrical experiences. Mime, storytelling, improvisation, stagecraft, and oral interpretation, as well as monologue and dialogue scenes are taught in units.
Drama II
Theatre Arts II is a 9-week course for students in grades 7-8 which focuses on the performance of theatre. Through theatre games, improvisation and work in small groups, students learn to create characters with and without text. Confidence, risk-taking and comfort in front of groups is encouraged through a unit on movement. The course culminates in a theatrical production in which all students participate. |
